Some Zepbound with the Leftovers
Lilly's new weight loss drug available after Thanksgiving & 20% Cheaper than Wegovy
“…only $1,059.87 per month…”
After the Thanksgiving feast it’ll be time for the Thanksgiving fast. Zepbound. Lilly’s just-approved slimming drug will be available just in time to help. It’ll go on sale while we still have leftover turkey in the fridge, and at a bargain price of only $1,059.87 per month according to STAT News (Link to article in STAT News).
Up to 20% Weight Loss for Zepbound vs. 15% for Wegovy
Zepbound (tirzepatide) also known as Mounjaro in its use to treat Type 2 diabetes, has been shown in trials to reduce body weight by up to 21%. Wegovy (semaglutide) AKA Ozempic in it diabetes use, has been shown in trial to reduce weight by about 15%. It is made by Novo Nordisk which has data on its long term use indicating reduced major heart and circulatory problems in obese patients. Anyway, read the STAT article by Elaine Chen and Damien Garde linked above.
“…try whatever helps us take off weight…”
My take on this is that we should try whatever helps us take off weight and keep it off because being obese is really bad for us. My personal preference is to do it with no drugs or surgery but I don’t judge people who use these aids because losing weight is really hard and important. The more time we spend closer to ideal body weight the healthier we are likely to be as we age.
“…build sustainable habits of diet and exercise…”
But let’s be realistic here, how many of us will be able to stay on these drugs for ever? Maybe it makes sense to use the time on the drug, when weight loss is magically easy, to build sustainable habits of diet and exercise. Having been overweight most of my life, I had to seek the help of a medically supervised program at HMR Natick (HMR Natick) to take off and keep off 100 pounds. Shout out to Coach Jina Klapisch and Dr. Dennis Rapa, they have helped me tremendously!
“…it gets easier over time…”
No doubt, controlling body weight is hard (very hard for me). However, with enough focus and attention to building and sustaining new habits (ahem, read Atomic Habits) my experience tells me that it can be done. And it gets easier over time, once new habits are established.

Agree, and, the biggest challenge (as you and most people know) is to keep the weight off.
For it to work, long term, it's best (essential, I would say) to get your body to want to keep a lower body weight (fat), i.e., to reset it's weight setpoint (adipostat) to a lower (lean) level.
